Field Study

I worked on Field Study during a residency at the MacDowell Colony. Each studio had its own empty field and this seemed to be a metaphor for creativity itself. The final work, Polaroid collage, was the technical answer to having no darkroom since I was 8 months pregnant and could not work with chemicals. Scissors, pens, and glue became my darkroom tools as I began to re-make the photographs as I wished them to be. When the skies came out underexposed I taped on a darker sky. When I photographed fireflies and the image came out black, I glued some in...

Originals, one-of-a-kind Polaroid collages, framed with titles etched on glass, various dimensions, 2005.

Archival pigment prints on paper, edition of 3, titles in pencil, 11x14", 2006.
